The 25 easy etudes op. 100 by Friedrich Burgmüller (1806-1874) are a well-known collection of piano pieces that are particularly popular with piano beginners and students. The composer succeeds in combining technical problems with appealing musical ideas, which sets him apart from many other (sometimes) 'drier' etude works.

Each of the music-pedagogically valuable etudes focuses on a particular technical aspect or musical idea, making them ideal for the development of pianistic skills and a popular teaching material.

The titles of the individual 25 etudes provide inspiration for the player's imagination:

  1. La candeur [Open mind] in C major

  2. Arabesque in A minor

  3. Pastorale [Pastoral] in G major

  4. Petite réunion [Children's company] in C major

  5. Innocence [Innocence] in F major

  6. Progrès [Progress] in C major

  7. Courant limpide [Trickling stream] in G major

  8. La gracieuse [The graceful one] F major

  9. La chasse [The hunt] in C major

  10. Tendre fleur [Tender flower] in D major

  11. La bergeronette [The wagtail] in C major

  12. Adieu [Farewell] in A minor

  13. Consolation [Consolation] in C major

  14. La styrienne [Styrian] in G major

  15. Ballade in C minor

  16. Douce plainte [Gentle lament] in G minor

  17. Babillarde [Babbler] in F major

  18. Inquitétude [Restlessness] in E minor

  19. Ave Maria in A major

  20. Tarentelle in D minor

  21. Harmonie des anges [Angelic voices] in G major

  22. Barcarolle [Gondola Song] in A flat major

  23. Retour [Homecoming] in E flat major

  24. L'hirondelle [The Swallow] in G major

  25. La chevaleresque [The noblewoman's ride] in C major

The edition in Edition Peters (no. 3101) was edited by Adolf Ruthardt, and there are also many other editions.

The description of the edition in Universal Edition states:

“Friedrich Burgmüller would probably be completely forgotten today if he had not made a name for himself as an experienced pedagogue with easily playable but brilliant-sounding etudes.”
